Anorthosis Famagusta v Werder Bremen-Famagusta have been the surprise package of Group B.  They find themselves 2ndwith 5 points behind Italian giants Inter, also coming very close to beating Mourinho’s men.  Breman on the other hand find themselves at the bottom of Group B with only 3 points.

Champions League Betting tip-With two more games left, Famagusta will fancy there chances of qualifying for the next stage.  If the other result goes their way, then a win will guarantee qualification.  Betfair price them at 3.85 to win this match.  This corresponding fixture ended up 0-0, with Breman wasting alot of chances.  I’m tipping  ‘Over 2.5 goals’priced at 1.73 and a Famagustato win, prices found on Betfair.

UPDATE- Famagusta 2-2 Werder Bremen- With the scores 0-0 at half time I was thinking the ‘Over 2.5′  goals wouldn’t be achieved, but the second half saw 4 goals hit the back of the net.  We were close to getting both tips correct, until Breman equalised late on.

Lyon v Steaua Bucharest

Betting tip- A quick Champions League bet, the last time these two teams played a few weeks back it produced an 8 goal thriller, lets hope those defences are not tightened up tonight because I’m tipping over 2.5 goals, priced at 1.81 on Betfair.

Update- Lyon 2-0 Steaua Bucharest. Unfortunately this game didn’t bring the 8 goal thriller we saw in the last encounter, another goal and we would have made a small profit.

The second round of Champions League games begin with Arsenal and Manchester United looking to get three points to kick off their European campaign after they both drew in their respective groups.

Arsenal v FC Porto- Port haven’t had much luck when playing in England, 9 out of 10 visits have resulted in losses.  Although they should go into this game with confidence having beaten Fenerbahce 3-1 at home.  The last time Arsenal played Porto at home was in September 2006 and they won the game 2-0. 

Betting tip-  Porto will try to keep it tight and try to frustrate Arsenal as much as they can. The betting odds for the over and under 2.5 goals reflect this, with over 2.5 goals priced at 2.1 and unders at 1.89 on Betfair.  Usually when Arsenal play there are goals, if they can get an early one then a few more will hopefully follow.  Back over 2.5 goals in this game.

UPDATE (wiiner)- A good night for Arsenal, back on form, scoring goals for fun and a good night for us, backing odds of 2.1 for over 2.5 goals was a great way to double our money in a mere 48 minutes, if only Wall Street could do the same!!  I was also interested in overs in the Man Utd match and doing a double with the two games, but never mind, no need to get too greedy!!

There were some great Champions League games last night, including the Liverpool match, Marseilles could of nearly of got a winner at the end, but Gerrard’s goal was a deserved winner. 

Betting tips

We’ll try and ease ourselves in the Champions League betting this season, so bet on over 1.5 goals in the Juventus v Zenit St Petersburg match at odds of 1.34, hopefully it will be an open match like I’ve seen in the past Zenit games. 

Fun bet-  With all the England players Cole, Lampard and Gerrard scoring yesterday, lets got for a small fun, bet on Wayne Rooney to score at anytime against Villarreal at odds of 2.8.  Let’s pray Rooney follows the good example set by his England teammates!!

UPDATE- In the end it was a tight match and the two teams could only muster one goal between them and there wasn’t quite the amount of goals as I expected.  A better value would of been to lay Lyon at odds of 1.75 against Fiorentina, that’s the benefit of hindsight!!!
