Yes you read it correctly. These are the full Premier League results for last week-end. Only two games survived the extreme and unusual freezing and blizzard conditions.

Sunderland 1 – 0 Bolton Wanderers

The result sums up the positions of both teams in the Premier League with Sunderland sitting 6^th and Bolton in 7^th place. Danny Welbeck made a fine header in the 32^nd minute to give Sunderland the points and to leap-frog Bolton from 7^th to 6^th place before a crowd of 35,101. Sunderland travel to Manchester for their Boxing Day match with Manchester United. Man Utd are clear favourites at 30/100 with Sunderland at 12/1. The draw could be a possibility at 5/1. Bolton Wanderers meet West Bromwich Albion on Boxing Day in what should be a close fought match. Bolton are favourites at 6/5 with West Brom on 3/1. The draw at 5/2 is worth a bet.

Blackburn Rovers 1 – 1 West Ham United

Blackburn should have made a better job of this fixture given their relative positions in the Premier League. Blackburn are 12^th while West Ham are at the bottom of the league. In other words this is a pretty good result for West Ham. However sitting at the bottom of the league is not a good place to be. You only get a view of everyone else’s back side. Blackburn scored first though Ryan Nelsen in 51 minutes. West Ham responded in the 78^th minute through Junior Stanislas. As you might appreciate, the Blackburn fans were not best pleased. Caretaker manager Steve Kean did not improve his prospects of landing the full-time job at Ewood Park. Blackburn meet Stoke at the week-end with both team sitting 12^th and 13^th respectively. Blackburn are 5/4 favourites with Stoke on 12/4. The draw at 12/5 is worth consideration given Blackburn’s slip-up this week-end.

Coming Week-End Choices

The week-end fixtures if it happens will look like this for me.

Blackpool v Liverpool

As you know I have been following both of these teams and my loyalty is a bit divided for this match. Liverpool are just ahead of Blackpool at 9^th and 10^th place respectively. This is a close match on paper with Liverpool favourites at 4/5. Blackpool are 4/1 and the draw is forecast at 3/1. This Premier League is so up-in-the-air and Liverpool are still fragile that this game could go any way. I would go for the draw on this occasion, if it happens.

Fulham v West Ham United

This bottom of the table fixture is a must for West Ham. They need to dig in and get the points if relegation is to pass them by. We are almost at the half-way stage and it is time to think about (avoiding) relegation. Fulham are evens for this match with West Ham on 100/30 for the win. The draw is 5/2 and this would be my bet of the week-end. Go for it.

LIVERPOOL 2 – 0 CHELSEA

A crowd of 44,238 fans watched Liverpool give the Premiership League leaders a 2-0 sting from goals by Fernando Torres in the 11th and 44th minutes. At 3/1 on the betting this was a nice one to get although no one really thought that Liverpool was ready at this stage.

Perhaps the point was made on Wednesday when Liverpool visited Wigan where they were held to a 1-1 draw. However we mustn’t cry over spilt milk. Liverpool are now in 9th position in the league. They should be in more positive frame of mind individually and as a team. It’s nice to see them getting back to where they should be.

FULHAM 1 – 1 ASTON VILLA

This proved to be a tough encounter as expected with Fulham just managing to snatch a share of the points in the 95th minute. The very late equaliser knocked the stuffing out of the Aston Villa players who thought the game was as good as done.

Aston Villa v Manchester United

Manchester United are the bookies favourites for this match with betting at 4/1 for an Aston Villa win, 4/5 for Manchester United and 11/4 for the draw. However the results of the most recent meetings, below don’t suggest that Man U should be the clear favourites. However the league positions at 2nd for Man U on 24 points and 10th for Aston Villa with 16 points is a more convincing argument.

Everton are sitting 12th in the league with 15 points and Arsenal are 3rd with 23 points.

We did see a blip in Everton’s performance when Arsenal trounced them 1 – 6 at home for Everton. Arsenal are given the edge by the bookies at 5/4 with Everton sitting at 12/5 and 5/2 for the draw.

Premiership Betting tip- West Ham have found it hard to score goals this season and looking at last season’s result they only managed to beat Wigan 1-0 away from home.   Ignoring these stats, PremiershipBettingBanter.com is going to predict goals, if Wigan can get in the goal scoring mood like they did on the opening day of the season and if they continue to let in the goals (just like the 5 against Man Utd), then over 2.5 goals is a possibility.  Back over 2.5 goals at odds of 2.44 on Betfair.

Aston Villa v Wigan-Villa will be looking to win their 5th consecutive game against Steve Bruce’s wigan.  This will be an interesting game as these clubs have played each other 7 times and the home team has only come out as the winner once.  Lately Wigan’s away form has meant they have lost to Manchester United and Manchester City.

Betting tip- Last years corresponding fixture say Wigan beat Aston Villa 2-0, but Villa have already beaten Wigan once this season.  Looking on Betfair ‘Over 2.5 goals’ looks to be a tempting bet at odds of 2.1 (11/10).  With players like Zaki and Agbonlahor, there should be goals in this match. 

Also go for a small bet for ex-wigan player Heskey to continue scoring for Aston Villa at odds of 2.8 (to score at anytime).

Tottenham v Hull- Can Spurs win their first league game this season? Or will they be beaten by Hull at home like their red rivals last week?  Hull have yet to lose on the road this season and will definitely give Tottenham a hard test.  The last time the two teams played each other in the league, Spurs came out 1-0 winners, but that was in 1978!!

Betting tip (LOSER):Tottenham haven’t looked a threat upfront and it’s very hard to tell where the next goal is coming from, but Hull have yet to keep a clean sheet.  If Spurs can get ahead then they’ll have a chance at picking up the three points.  But I’ll be looking at the ‘Over 2.5 goals’ market and backing ‘Over 2.5 goals’ at odds of 1.81.   It might be interesting to also look into Fraizer Campbell to score against Hull, the team he was on loan to last season(if he starts).

Man City v Liverpool- Richard Dunne is an injury doubt for Manchester City, but Bulgarian Martin Petrov could start.  City have won three out of their six league games this season and Liverpool  can boast an unbeaten record. 

Betting tip (WINNER): City have not scored against Liverpool in the league for over 9 hour of football and the scoreline between the two teams has either been 0-0 or 0-1.  But I’m going to go against the odds here and back ‘Over 2.5 goals’ at odds of 2.28 on Betfair.  Liverpool have some fantastic attacking players and I will hoping(preying) that City can score at least one goal against their mean defence!!  Let’s hope in the selected matches it will be raining goals!!

UPDATE- It was one winning and one losing bet for the weekend, backing over 2.5 goals made an easy winning bet for the City match where the score ended up as 3-2 to Liverpool.  Although it was the Spurs match which let us down this weekend, Tottenham just couldn’t break down a resilient Hull defence. Backing over 2.5 goals in a Tottenham match may not prove to be so profitable this season with them finding it hard to hit the back of the net.

Everton v Liverpool

The big game this week has to the be the 179th Merseyside derby.  If you are fan of backing red cards and yellow cards then this is the game for you,  16 out of the 32 meetings have resulted in red cards.  I can always guarantee Phil Neville will find himself in the book for a hasty challenge (1.9 odds on Betfair) and an own goal may just occur once again in this fixture!!!

Betting tips:  Who will win this derby?…Who knows?  It’s hard to predict these derby games, but judging on form Liverpool look to be likely winners, especially with Everton only picking up points away from home this season.  But the main bet I’ll be backing is Stephen Gerrard to score.  Needing one more to make 100 goals, what better team his 100th against? Back him to score at anytime at odds of 3.75 on PaddyPower.  Also back Robbie Keane to score at odds of 3.25.

Wigan v Man City

The last time City played Wigan away from home the scoreline was 1-1.  From a quick glance this game may look like a Man City win, but City have failed to beat Wigan in the Premiership.  Wigan have been in good form lately, with the 5-0 win over Hull being their biggest result this season.

Betting tip: City are the favourites to win this game at odds of 2.46 (Betfair) with the home team priced at odds of around 3.25.  Let go for the value bet here and back Wigan, they’ve been in good form and Man City may be a little weary after having to play extra time mid-week.  This looks like it could be cracking game, I would like to think there will be goals galore!!!

UPDATE- The Merseyside Derby produced alot of whistle blowing moments by the referee, meaning that there was no flow to the game.  Liverpool deserved the victory (as predicted), but Everton can count themselves unlucky to have Cahill sent off.  There was no luck in picking Gerrard and Keane to score, but I had to back Neville to get a yellow card when I saw the odds for a yellow jump up to around 2.3 on Betfair, so when he made that crashing challenge I celebrated like it was a goal!!

The Wigan game brought us the biggest betting winner of the season, courtesy of a Zaki penalty.  Hopefully this will be the turning point and we can get a good run of winning bets now.  Goals were predicted in this game, if only I had backed over 2.5 goals as well!!
